I don't fancy myself a poet, but I write as the words come. I was led to write this piece that came to me as I thought about those things that are both near to me and transcend my being and my understanding. The Word(s) has/have shaped my voice.

Word(s) of Life, Like a River

In the beginning, there was the Word There was an articulation, a voice A syllabic expression of the divine In the beginning, there was the Word There was breath and rhythm There was expression and utterance In the beginning, there was the Word There was being and existence Beyond flesh, beyond bone, beyond blood Through the Word everything that is made was made And nothing that was made was made without the Word The Word formed me The Word shaped me The Word moved me The Word nurtured me In the now there is the Word In the now there are words There are articulations of my voice There are syllabic expressions of the divine There is breath and rhythm and expression and utterance In the now words draw the outlines, the frames of my being Beyond flesh, beyond bone, beyond blood words shape me words nurture me words feed me words course through my veins, life’s blood...like a river words refresh me and quench my thirst In the beginning there was the Word In the now there is/are the Word(s) In the Word(s) there is life.
